Good news for Nepali travelers planning to visit Sri Lanka. The Government of Sri Lanka has introduced a free Tourist Visa facility, also known as Electronic Travel Authorization (ETA), for nationals of 40 countries, including Nepal.

According to the announcement from the Embassy of Sri Lanka in Kathmandu, Nepali nationals traveling to Sri Lanka for tourism purposes are eligible to obtain a 30-day double-entry Tourist ETA free of charge, effective from 25 May 2026. The official Sri Lanka ETA website also states that nationals of 40 selected countries are eligible for a free tourist ETA for 30 days from 25 May 2026.

What is Sri Lanka ETA?

ETA stands for Electronic Travel Authorization. It is an online travel authorization required for short visits to Sri Lanka. Travelers should obtain the ETA before traveling to Sri Lanka through the official ETA website. The Sri Lanka Department of Immigration and Emigration states that tourist and business travelers can apply for ETA for entry into Sri Lanka.

Entry Type: Double Entry

Visa Fee: Free of charge

Effective Date: 25 May 2026

Purpose: Tourism only

The official Sri Lanka ETA fee information also lists tourist visa with double entry for 30 days under ETA visa categories.

Should Travelers Apply Before Arrival?

Yes. Travelers are advised to obtain the ETA before arrival in Sri Lanka through the official website: www.eta.gov.lk. This helps avoid travel delays and makes the immigration process smoother.
